Front-End Engineer / Sofia, Bulgaria

StasUzunov

front-end engineer

I build products and sites that actually ship — online stores, services, my own apps, and one book. Daily driver: TypeScript, React, and an unreasonable amount of attention to detail.

01 / who is this

about

Born and raised in Burgas, now in Sofia. I started with C++ in high school, went through olympiads and hackathons, and landed in front-end because that is where the distance between an idea and something a person can actually touch is shortest.

Stas Uzunov — front-end engineer

My days run in two directions: front-end work at Sportal365, and my own products and client sites on the side — stores, product sites and services that have to bring in real orders, not just look good.

I earned my first money at 14 as a goldsmith’s apprentice, and at 16 I was a waiter and barman. That is where I learned that small details show — and I still carry them into the code.

Outside the editor: I wrote a book, and I spent nine years on the wrestling mat. Wrestling taught me more about debugging than any course ever did: if you step out already thinking the other guy is better, he has beaten you.

Cover of “От дете, Мъж” by Stas Uzunov

От дете, Мъж

The uncomfortable truth about growing up.

I wrote the book I needed when I was younger. I am not a writer and I am not promising a happy ending — I am promising the truth.

It came out on 24 February, my birthday. No publisher: a professional editor, my own site, and parcels I pack and send myself.

The title comes from a board in my room where I tracked competitions, weight, training and money. Watching myself change through them, it became clear that this was the road from a boy to a man.

The cover shows a hand with the ring finger raised. From a distance the gesture looks like something else, and that is deliberate — in Bulgarian that finger is called “the nameless one”, as if the person had no name. Nobody should feel like that.

If you do not master the rhythm of your days, it will start to master you.
